5Works great
By Don Merson
Bought this rack some time ago. Easy to assemble and install. It is tough and durable. It lives on top of the minivan full time and has shown no signs of rust or corrosion. Very satisfied.

4Thule MOAB Cargo carrier good, support clueless
By Tom H. Prohaszka
I purchaed the thule MOAB carrier from Amazon. I needed the extra space for since my Acadia hatch space was so small. THe box arrived undamaged and timely. I began following the instructions, and things started ok. You have to assemble a left half and a right half of the basket and put them together. Each side is joined by a clam shell with 5 screws. I assembled the first side joining them and tightning the screws. BE CAREFULL! The screws should not be overly tight, or they will screw through the other side! That is the first problem.

The second problem is that the the the other side was not FLUSH and the rigth and left did not line up! As I said, the box was not damaged when I arrived, so this is clearly a quality problem. I would have sent it back, but I needed it for a trip and would not have been able to get a replacement in time. I had to disassemble the side I had just done, and with plastic and metal screws, this is not something that should be done.

I ended up using a rubber mallet and put a piece of wood in the bent tube and begain hammering away. I was able to get it better, but not perfect. Again, I assembled the left, and then the right. I still had to force the bent side together, to get it to stay in place.

After the basket is installed, there is a plexi glass wind shield. They suggest putting this on while the basket is on the ROOF of the car. DON"T DO THIS! THIS IS STUPID! Do this on the ground. The use plastic push buttons which have ribs to hold the plastic in a plastic tube bracket. They suggest pushing them together. THIS IS STUPID. I am not a weak person, and you won't be able to squeeze them properly. I suggest using a socket that can fit on the one end and the end of a screw driver to push on the head of the plastic washer. You can then push together and form a nice secure fit.

After fighting with this for over 2 hours, I then attempted to install on my Acadia roof (dealer cross bars). It was easy to lift. One suggestion, I moved the cross bars to the far back with about 22-24 inches between them (there was alot of wind noise when it was too far forward). Because of the way the MOAB cage tubes are, the basket bottom will actually sit off the cross bar about 1/4 inch.

The brackets that hold the basket to the car cross bars were good and not too hard to put on. The final step is to install the lock covers. I did not buy locks, but put the covers on. There is a little push pin which is supposed to keep these in place. THEY DON"T WORK! I ended up loosing one of the lock covers due to the wind blowing it off. Using the 544 lock set fixed this, but I was short a lock cover, so I contacted Thule support.

This little piece of plastic for the lock cover costs about $20...$20!!! I contacted support describing the problem. This was a painful ordeal. I won't go into all the problems, but it took me o ver 6 weeks to resolve this. They lost my request, they said they would send it, they didn't, I had over 4 different people and each one was clueless.

They finally got there act together, and they did replace it.

So, support would get 2 stars, the basket 4 stars. Hopefully if you get this, my experience will help you out. Good luck.

5100,000 mile, 3 year review
By R. Oden
I've had the Thule MOAB mounted to the top of my Subaru Outback for the past 3 years and it has seen pretty much everything. -30 degree temperatures, 110 degree heat, deep snow, ice, daily commuting, many many drive-thru car washes, as well as several road trips with about 150 pounds of stuff loaded in this basket. Oh yes, and its NEVER seen a garage. I have to say that I am impressed with its durability and the Thule quality really does show. As of of this writing there is no faded paint/plastic, and the structural integrity is sound. I do throw a coat of Carnuba wax once a year but that's the only attention it gets. I get comments on it all the time and it helps me distinguish which Subaru is mine among the Sea of Subaru's parked at REI.

Pro's:
*Durability
*Build Quality
*No noises or excess road/wind noise
*Only affects my gas mileage by 1-2mpg at most
*Hauled me and my wife's stuff on several thousand mile road trips worry free
*Thule provides replacement parts for all their stuff. Even the small stuff!

Con's: (Yes, still 5 stars after Cons)
*Supplied screws were a little cheap. Replaced with Staleness steel screws
*Fairing mounts need to be replaced as of now. After 100,000 they have gotten a little loose. Pro: Purchased the parts directly from Thule for under $10.
*Outer tubing is over-sized which was a plus for me at first, but then quickly realized the aftermarket nets are for the smaller diameter baskets.
